Ignacio Cobo
Principal Consultant at AFRY Management Consulting
Ignacio joined AFRY in 2016. In AFRY he has been involved in modelling activities and analysis in the Iberian markets, as well as other markets in Latin America. He has led and participated in the market advisory phase in several M&A transactions in Iberia, including renewable, thermal and pump storage assets.
Before joining AFRY Ignacio worked in Iberdrola as an Asset Manager and Energy Trader, managing Iberdrola’s portfolio both in the Spanish and electricity markets. Ignacio currently leads the market activities in Portugal.

- (2021) Hybridisation strategy design for a Portuguese incumbent
- (2019-2021) Advisory to the Portuguese Governments in the design of the renewable auctions to be held in Portugal
- (2020) Supported several clients during their preparation for the Portuguese auction 2020. Supported one of the winners in the auction under the storage modality. These assessments involved the development of an accurate tool for modelling ancillary services and extract the maximum value for a battery taking into account a multi-market optimisation
- (2018 and 2019) Led the sell-side commercial DD of a large hydro pump storage asset in Portugal for a confidential client. This project involved the analysis of the day-ahead as well as the ancillary services revenue streams
- (2019 and 2020) Led the buy-side commercial DD of a CCGT in Spain that resulted in the acquisition from the client. This project involved the analysis of the day-ahead as well as the ancillary services revenue streams
- (2019) Valued several thermal power plants in Spain, taking into account the day-ahead revenues as well as the historical contribution in the ancillary services markets
- (2019) Led the buy-side commercial DD of the international renewable portfolio of X-Elio in which Brookfield ended-up investing
- (2018) Developed some statistical tools and analysis in order to quantify the risk of a renewable project for a client analysing an investment in Iberia
- (2016-present) Advisory to the Iberian country experts in market-related topics, especially concerning ancillary services
