Nuno Miguel Soares Banza, 44 years old, has a degree in Environmental Engineering and a Master's Degree in Spatial Planning and Impacts, from the Faculty of Science and Technology of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa. PhD student in Climate Change and Sustainable Development Policies at the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Lisbon.
He was a senior technician in Environmental Engineering at the Nature Conservation Institute (current ICNF, I.P.), having been responsible for the environmental engineering specialty in the work of the Arrábida Natural Park and Natural Reserve of the Sado Estuary.
He was a senior technician at the Municipality of Barreiro, having worked as Coordinator of the Environment Working Group and Head of the Environmental Sustainability Division, having been responsible for coordinating the Municipal Environmental Plan of Barreiro, as well as several community projects.
He was responsible for applying the IEE/EACI Community Program to fund the creation of the Regional Energy Agency for the municipalities of Barreiro, Moita, Montijo and Alcochete (S. Energia), of which he was Technical Director. In this capacity, he coordinated several regional works in the field of Energy and Climate Change. He was a member of the Installation Committee of the National Network of Energy Agencies — RNAE.
He was the founder of the National Forest of Machada and Sapal do Rio Coina Local Nature Reserve, of which he was the first President of the Board of Directors, while elected as a local. He was responsible for the LIFE Biodiversity Application approved by the European Commission for the Local Nature Reserve.
In the General Inspectorate of Agriculture, Sea, Environment and Spatial Planning (IGAMAOT), he held the position of Deputy General Inspector between March 2013 and May 2014 and the position of General Inspector between May 2014 and May 2019.
Represented by the National Association of Portuguese Municipalities in the Coordination Group of the National Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change.
In the private sector, he was a manager of environmental projects and a consultant for several entities in the field of Environmental Impact Assessment.
He is the author and co-author of several publications in his area of expertise and a regular contributor to some newspapers, having been the coordinator of the Portuguese case study of the European project “Participatory Spatial Planning in Europe — PSPE”.
He is an effective member of the Order of Engineers at the College of Environmental Engineering.
He is President of the Supervisory Board of the Humanitarian Association of Voluntary Firefighters of the South and Southeast, Barreiro.
He holds the position of the President of the Board of Directors of the Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests, I.P. since May 2019.
