João Nuno Lacerda Teixeira de Melo holds a law degree in The University of Portucalense Infante D. Henrique (1990).
He's a lawyer and legal adviser.
It carries out various activities, including:
- President and Deputy of the Municipal Assembly of Vila Nova de Famalicão, since 2002;
- President of the Braga District Political Commission of CDS-PP;
- MEP elected by the CDS-PP since 2009;
- Head of the CSD-PP delegation to the European Parliament;
- Member of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs;
- Alternate member of the Committee on environment, public health and food safety;
- Alternate member of the Committee on Fisheries.
He was a member of the Committee of Inquiry into the Panama Papers (money laundering, evasion and tax avoidance) and member of the Special Committee on Terrorism.
He is currently a member of the Delegation for Relations with the Federative Republic of Brazil, delegation for relations with Mercosur, the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Delegation and, alternately, a member of the Delegation for Relations with the United States.

He was rapporteur on the proposal on the European Research Decision, the proposal on the control of arms acquisition and possession, or the proposal on the interoperability of the European Union's information systems, the latter being the largest change in the architecture of the European Union's information systems, which has been assumed to be the European Commission's highest priority in the field of Union security, a decisive step in fighting terrorism, organised crime and human trafficking.
In the previous parliamentary term, as a member of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development, he played an important role in defending the generational renewal of the agricultural sector and promoting the agricultural sector Portuguese, with the annual organisation of the European Congress of Young Farmers.

• 1993 - 2000 - President of the Political Commission of the Design of Vila Nova de Famalicão of CDS-PP.
• 1999-2009 : Member of the Assembly of the Republic in the VIII, IX and X Legislatures, by the Circle of Braga.
• 22/07/2004-12/10/2006 : Chairman of the Parliamentary Group of the CDS-PP.
• 2005-2009 : Vice-President of the Assembly of the Republic in the 10th Legislature - deputy coordinator of the CDS-PP in the following Parliamentary Committees:
- Committee on Constitutional Affairs, Rights, Freedoms and Guarantees;
- Ethics Committee;
- Commission for Parity, Equal Opportunities and Family;
- Possible Committee of Parliamentary Inquiry into tap management;
- Possible Committee of Parliamentary Inquiry into Government and Administration Acts in the Process of the Foundation for Prevention and Security VII Parliamentary Committee of Inquiry into the Camarate Tragedy;
- Committee of Inquiry on the Situation That Led to the Nationalization of LBW and on Inherent Banking Supervision.
