Salvador Malheiro is a mechanical engineer from University of Oporto (1995). He also has a Masters degree in the same area by the same Faculty and a PhD in Sciences for Engineering, on Energy, Thermal and Combustion, by the University of Poitiers (2002).

He joined in 1996 French Petroleum Institute, where he obtained an expertise in internal combustion engines.

In 1997 began his academic career at the University of Trás os Montes, Portugal, as Professor in Mechanical Engineering.

In 1999 entered the Renault where in partnership with the University of Poitiers held their doctoral thesis (2002). Since then, in addition to exercising its function of teacher and researcher at the University, he worked intensively with the European Commission as technical expert on Bioenergy.

Worked also as technical advisor in several Portuguese and foreign companies.

Collaborated assiduously with the government Portuguese in the technical evaluation of innovation projects related to energy exploitation of renewable resources.

Was the country manager for Bioenergy at the Swedish Embassy in Lisbon.

Recently was awarded with the title of specialist in Energy and senior member of Portuguese Association of Engineers.

He coordinated several research projects and is author over 50 scientific publications in the field of Bioenergy, Biomass and Renewable Energy.

Presently (since October 2013), Salvador Malheiro is the Mayor of the Muncipality of Ovar (Portugal) in exclusivity and Vice President of PSD.
