Tiago Simões de Almeida has a degree in Chemical Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico, of Universidade Técnica de Lisboa, and post-graduations in Finance from Universidade Católica Portuguesa and Management from Universidade Nova de Lisboa.

He worked for 5 years in Corporate Finance at BPI – Banco Português de Investimento and, in 1999, joined the Project Finance Department at Banco BPI, having become the Head of Project Finance in 2011. In 2017 this unit changed its designation to Structured Finance and engrossed not only Project Finance transactions but also Acquisition, Leverage and Asset Finance, as well as corporate structured financings.

He led financial advisory and lending teams involved in projects in areas such as transport infrastructure, buildings, conventional and renewable energy, water and environment, mainly in Portugal, but also in Spain, United Kingdom, Ireland, Holland, France, Mozambique, United States and Canada.

As from January 2019, this business unit of Banco BPI was transferred to a newly formed Branch of CaixaBank in Portugal, with a view to being integrated in CaixaBank’s equivalent teams sited in Spain. Although this business unit maintains as its main focus assisting Banco BPI in the Portuguese market, this measure enables it to obtain information, know-how and resources from CaixaBank, one of the World’s leaders in Project Finance.
